Wiley was the first person to fly around the world solo and he did it in his Lockheed Vega, the !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! . He set a number of records in the aircraft and pioneered high altitude flight techniques with it. The Vega was deigned by Jack Northrop. Kelly Johnson contributed to later modifications to the landing gear when Post used it to explore high speed flight in the stratosphere. Post and Goodyear developed the first pressure suits to facilitate this research. Sadly, Post and actor Will Rogers were killed in a crash in Alaska in 1935. The Winnie May can be found in the Smithsonian.

And he did all that with only one eye. Also, I don’t know how those people flew planes with such horrible visibility. I was amazed to learn that the Spirit of St. Louis didn’t even have a front windscreen.
